August 14, 2007 morning

August 14, 2007
8:45 am ISD

Team Nature Knights has reached Joshimath traveling from Karnaprayag – nandprayag (914 m) , Chamoli (960 m), Pipalkoti (1259 m), Helong, Animath to Joshimath).

They are waiting for their batch of vehicles to get cleared. Vehicles are left in batches from Joshimath to Govindghat; as the road is too narrow and only one way traffic can pass; the vehicle bypass each other some where in the centre (**). The fist batch left at 6 am; out teams is taking the second batch of the day that is at 9 am. We have made up for some lost time; but still lost around 3 hours.

From Govidghat; team Nature Knights travel upto Ghangria (one day trek); via Pulna reaching an altitude of 3048 meters.

About Nature Knights.

Most of us in Corporate World are caught in a rat race, trying to out do one another at work place. Climbing the corporate ladder has become the sole objective of one’s existence. While there are those who are comfortably cocooned in the coziness of their comfort zones, there are others for whom chaos is the order of the day.
In midst of all this, we are a bunch of adventure enthusiasts who have come together to discover that there’s more to life than the regimental and monotonous work routine. It was this common interest that bought some friends together thus giving birth to Nature Knights. And over a period of time Nature Knights has evolved into an eco-adventure group.
Members of Nature Knights come from diverse corporate and cultural backgrounds. They include Technology Professionals, Professionals from HR and Accounting, Academics, Media and Sales. This is to name just a few. The objective of forming “Nature Knights” was to give a common platform for people with interest in Eco / Geo -adventures and more importantly with a desire to contribute something back into nature. We quite believe in the old saying that goes - ‘”The world is not for us to inherit but for us to take care so that we can be pass it on to the future generation”
We organize and facilitate adventure events which are not limited to trekking, mountaineering, nature trails, jeep safaris, river rafting, out-bound team dynamics and various other outdoor adventure activities. We are particularly interested in exploring places of "archeological and cultural importance"; and Wild Life Sanctuaries. Till date, we have organized over a seven hundred adventure events in locations ranging from the daunting heights of Himalayas to the rich valleys of Western Ghats and Nilgiris.
We also facilitate adventure events for Corporate, Schools, Colleges and private groups on request.

Experience is our key asset and as seasoned adventurers we believe that we have the knowledge, expertise and the will to deal with any unexpected situation.

Our organization comprises of Nature Knights Management, Core team, Associate Professionals in Adventure sports, Local contacts and members.

We strongly believe that leave only footprints and take only memories

Day 3 - Mid Day Progress (3 pm) Deoprayag to Karnaprayag

Its 2:40 noon There were around a total of 3 land slides on the route to Joshimath; two land slides have already been cleared. The team has only reached Deoprayag (hardly 1/4th the total distace towards Joshimath). The drivers informed us that we would not be able to make it till Joshimat as we have lost lot of time and we should change our goalpost to Karmaprayag where we should be able to reach by sun down.

Dino informed me that they can see huge rocks overhanging the highway at lot of places which looked scary. There were also lot of JCBs moving around to clear the road blocks; the 3rd and last road slide is expected to be cleared by 3:40 noon. The decision was taken to halt at Karmaprayag. That is after Devgarh and Rudraprayag (I had read this name in the "Jim Corbetts" - Book "The man eaters of India"). From Karnaprayag to Joshimath then to Govindghat may be around 4 hours. So Team Nature Knights will have to start early around

4:30 / 5 am on August 14, 2007

Proposed plan to start from Karnaprayag for Govindghat. The trek from Govindghat to Gangaria has to be planned to be done in a very tight schedule as already the team would have lost lot of day light. Probably consider tattu (Mules) and / or pitthu (Loaders) to make the load light and progress faster. 7:25 pm. August 13, 2007. Just got news that our team has reached that out team has reached Karnaprayag safely. The weather is very pleasant around 15 to 18 degree centigrade.

Day 2 (Delhi to RishiKesh) & Day 3 (Rishikesh to Joshimath)

Day 2 and Day3 cont… August 13, 2007.

8:00 am - Just spoke to Dino, There has been a landslide on the road between Rishikesh and Joshimat. JCB is clearing the road should be clear in couple of hours; before 12 noon.

Yesterday (August 12, 2007); Team Nature Knights stopped at restaurant called “Cheetal”; at Village ** somewhere between Delhi and Hardwar. This restaurant had great food but was very costly. Another very interesting thing in this place was chickens; hold your appetite not for eating but for viewing; “Fighter Chicken, Fancy Chicken, Ugly chicken, fat chicken, tall chicken, English chicken, Phadi Chicken, Pakistani chicken so on an so forth..; so much for Chicken Dunia..

Environment at Hardwar was festive; it always happens on Amavas Nights (New Moon Night). Out team could not stop here to enjoy this as they wanted to reach Rishikesh before dark.

The dormitory at GMVN was excellent with huge rooms, 6 beds per room in dormitory, attached 2 WC and bathroom. This all for a very economic value.

Team Nature Kights had a bon appetite at “Natraj Restaurant” near GMVN food was good and again economical.

August 13, 2007 –

Our team got the news of Landslide so planned to start at 9 am instead as earlier planned 6:30 am. Our driver also informed that we have to get vehicle inspected and certified by RTO before we proceeded to Joshimat, this was mandatory. That was the last news from Nature Knights. The journey continues from Rishikesh to Joshimat.
